Detroit-born John Gillis apprenticed as an upholsterer, co-founded the White Stripes, then created Third Man as a vertically integrated analog sanctuary. He has spent two decades fighting for vinyl, analog tape and physical ritual while releasing ever-more inventive pressings and, in 2025, entering the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the White Stripes.
Achievements
Twelve Grammys, White Stripes Hall of Fame induction, Third Man Pressing plant, record-breaking vinyl first-week sales, and a 2026 art exhibition of his own sculptures.
