Born in Coventry in 1937, Delia Derbyshire studied mathematics and music at Cambridge before joining the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in 1962. She realized Ron Grainer's Doctor Who theme electronically in 1963 using analog techniques, created hundreds of works, collaborated on experimental radio and theatre, and left a vast tape archive discovered after her 2001 death that continues to inspire electronic musicians.
